Re: Out of Memory - Printing Crystal Reports from Viewer VS2010 .Net 4 CR13.0.7

Hi Don,

Thanks for your great reply, it has given me something to work with especially with the issue of images and memory.

I have done 2 things that have decreased the amount of memory used when printing, the first was to remove the watermark image and supress the underlay section.

The second was that I had a footer section that was not currently being used it contained data but no images, as I was not using it I commented out the suppression formula and left in 'true', I then uncommented the formula and the section is now displayed on the report the amount of memory used while printing reduced significantly, and memory seems to be freed up earlier, I have no idea why.

I did test with the HP printer driver and found better results than with XPS driver but not by much, I had an idea that XPS was a bit intensive but I was going for the worst case scenario.

As it seems the out of memory error is an internal CR issue with images I am happy with the amount of memory used while printing which is now approx. 250MB at its peak above previously used memory.

I have not yet had time to convert to SQL Native 10 but am planning to.

As for the out of memory issue caused by images obviously this is a great concern, I am looking to roll out my upgrade to a large user base and im lucky I have had this occurrence in a small environment first. Unhandled exceptions like that make us look very un-professional.

For now I guess the answer is to remove the images from the report?

The list of fixed issues in SP 7 only mentions:

ADAPT01691849  Performance issue when there are images in a report

Hopefully SP 8 and beyond will advise in a bit more detail the status of using images relating to out of memory exceptions.

Thanks.

Jeff.
